Raising the awareness of the wildfire problem is the first step in
the education of wildfire prevention. Keep Oregon Green works statewide to raise awareness of the most frequent human-caused wildfires such as those resulting from debris
burning, equipment use, recreation, children playing with fire, and smoking. This is accomplished monetarily through contributions from private and industrial landowners, and the
public, awarded grants, and partnerships with the media. That funding then becomes television, radio, billboards and newspaper media spots, which have proven to be the best methods of
promoting the wildfire prevention messages to multitudes of Oregonians and visitors. Hopefully, Smokey Bear license plates will add to that medium of
reducing the number of human-caused wildfires in Oregon.
